Industry Partnership Announcement

The Institute of Electric Power Engineering in Kyrgyzstan is delighted to announce the signing of a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kyrgyz Energy Corporation (KEC), the country's largest power utility company.
The five-year agreement, signed on July 20, 2022, establishes a framework for collaboration in several key areas:
- Joint research projects focusing on power system stability, renewable energy integration, and energy efficiency
- Internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students at KEC's generation, transmission, and distribution facilities
- Professional development programs for KEC engineers to be delivered by institute faculty
- Guest lectures by KEC specialists in institute courses to provide industry perspectives
- Access to KEC's operational data for academic research purposes
- Collaborative development of solutions to address current challenges in the Kyrgyz power sector
"This partnership represents a significant step in strengthening the connection between academia and industry in our sector," said Dr. Azamat Karimov, Dean of the Institute. "It will ensure that our educational programs remain relevant to industry needs while providing our students with valuable practical experience."
Mr. Talaibek Orozov, CEO of Kyrgyz Energy Corporation, expressed similar enthusiasm: "We see great value in collaborating with the Institute of Electric Power Engineering. Their expertise in advanced technologies and research capabilities will help us address the evolving challenges in our power system, particularly as we increase the share of renewable energy."
The first initiatives under this partnership will include:
- A research project on optimizing hydropower operations with increasing solar PV penetration
- A summer internship program for 15 selected students starting in August 2022
- A series of workshops on digital substations and protection systems for KEC engineers
This partnership builds on previous successful collaborations between the institute and KEC, including joint technical seminars and student field trips to power facilities.
