New Renewable Energy Lab Opened

The Institute of Electric Power Engineering in Kyrgyzstan is proud to announce the inauguration of our state-of-the-art Renewable Energy Laboratory. This facility represents a significant investment of 2.5 million USD in our commitment to advancing sustainable energy research and education.
The new laboratory is equipped with cutting-edge technology for research in solar, wind, and hydroelectric power generation. Key features include:
- Solar PV testing and characterization equipment with I-V curve tracers and solar simulators
- Wind turbine simulation systems with variable speed drives and load banks
- Micro-hydropower demonstration units with Pelton and Francis turbines
- Advanced energy storage testing facilities for lithium-ion, flow batteries, and supercapacitors
- Smart grid integration testbed with SCADA systems and power quality analyzers
"This laboratory will significantly enhance our research capabilities and provide our students with hands-on experience with the latest renewable energy technologies," said Dr. Azamat Karimov, Dean of the Institute. "It will serve as a hub for innovation and collaboration with industry partners throughout Central Asia."
The laboratory was made possible through funding from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, with additional support from the Asian Development Bank and industry sponsors including Kyrgyz Energy Corporation and Siemens.
The facility will support undergraduate and graduate education, faculty research, and industry collaboration. It will also serve as a demonstration site for renewable energy technologies applicable to the Central Asian region, with a particular focus on solutions for rural electrification and grid integration of variable renewable resources.
An open house event for students, faculty, and industry partners will be held on April 20, 2023, to showcase the laboratory's capabilities and ongoing research projects. Representatives from government agencies and international organizations will also be in attendance.
